The Music Teacher will be responsible for developing in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture. He/She will teach techniques of vocal or instrumental music expression; discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; and develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music in accordance with the State frameworks.

Job Description:

The Music Teacher will perform all or some of the following Job description:

• Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and choral music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble)

• Use the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities

• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the schools

• Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within allotted time

• Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil

• Use repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils

• Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required

• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances

• Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group

• Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community

• Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil’s progress

• Identify pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems

• Cooperate with the school administration in providing musical programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions

• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities related to music

• Select and requisition books, musical instruments, and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records

• Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned

• Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities

• Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs

• Act as Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119, Section 51A)

• Complie with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy

• Any other duties as assigned by Administration.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Music Teacher Job

• Prior work experience as Music Teacher.
