Medical Receptionist - Urgent Care Job Description

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The Medical Receptionist - Urgent Care will be responsible for providing telephone and clerical support while assisting with functions that ensure optimal patient services and flow. 

Job Description:

The Medical Receptionist - Urgent Care will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Answer department telephone, route caller to appropriate individual, and take detailed messages

  • When necessary send tasks as appropriate through organization's Electronic Health Record (EHR) to nursing and/or provider staff

  • Check patients in and verify patient identification, demographics, and collects co-pay amount

  • Verify and submit receipt of documentation and insurance authorization using OMPRO (Oregon Medical Professional Review Organization) and other provided software/sources

  • Ensure appropriate waivers are in place

  • Verify processes are in place prior to appointment or procedures

  • Prepare patients charts for appointment by verifying all labs, radiology reports, and general internal and external dictations are in place

  • Enter labs and/or other tests as ordered by the provider into EHR

  • Schedule procedures, specialty, ancillary and follow up appointments

  • Take on additional administrative duties when needed

  • Distribute mail, fax, make phones calls to patients/pharmacy's/other doctors' office

  • Clean patient rooms as needed

  • Perform daily reconciliation of monies collected

  • Perform other duties as assigned (Special projects, escort patients as needed; clean and stock patient room; order supplies when needed). 

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Receptionist - Urgent Care Job

  • Strong computer and typing skills with an emphasis on 10-key

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, medical terminology, practice management scheduler, documentation standards, and EHR system a plus, preferably Mysis

  • Effective verbal communication, especially for use during a telephone conversation

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures

  • Two years in a healthcare business office setting preferred.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Receptionist - Urgent Care Job

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
