Job Summary:
The
Medical Receptionist - Adult Emergency
Department will be responsible for
supporting delivery of patient care by
providing clerical and receptionist
services to patients, families,
visitors, staff, physicians, departments
that support patient care, and all other
customers of a Patient Care Unit. He/She
will facilitate efficient workflow,
support appropriate use of technology,
and foster effective communication in
order to support institutional mission
and credo.

The
Medical Receptionist - Adult Emergency
Department will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:
Provide excellent customer service
as evidenced by clear, direct and
courteous interactions in a timely
fashion
Support customers by providing
clear, current information to
families, visitors, and staff; by
distributing visitor passes; and by
seeking assistance from clinical
staff, security, and others as
needed
Respond to patient call system and
patient requests promptly and
politely. Expedite response to
patient and other calls as needed
Foster effective communication
between departments, shift, and
various customers to support patient
care mission of the unit
Respond appropriately during
emergency situations and provide
support during codes as directed
Process orders according to
guidelines
Follow computer downtime procedures
Safeguard patient privacy and
confidentiality when performing job
responsibilities that require
accessing and using patient
information
Type

Enter
and update information in computer
systems to assure current
information
Retrieve data accurately and
continuously maintain accurate
patient census
Maintain equipment in operational
status by trouble shooting and
contacting appropriate department
for repairs and maintenance
Work
with team to identify & implement
ideas to increase the effectiveness
and efficiency of people and
electronic systems that support
quality patient care
Participate in behavioral
interviewing and orientation of
staff as appropriate
Assemble, maintain, and break down
patient charts according to
standards and prepare charts for
surgery and other special procedures
Maintain unit log according to
guidelines
Order, maintain, and use supplies in
cost effective manner
Make
follow up appointments, providing
information required for insurance
verification and pre-certification
Perform discharge-related clerical
tasks.
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill

Emergency Department Job
Prior
Emergency Department / Medical
Receptionist experience desired
Ability to utilize all available
equipment and resources in a manner
that results in smooth, continuous
workflow
Ability to use telephone, patient
call system, beeper/paging system,
computers, pneumatic tube system,
and telelift (where available) to
facilitate flow of communication and
supplies to and from the unit
Ability to learn and apply new
technical skills and systems as
technology changes, work with team
to identify and address learning
needs surrounding computer and
technical systems
Demonstrated collaborative approach
in the workplace and coordination of
work area activities that facilitate
excellence in customer service.
Minimum Education Requirements /
Certification / Licensure For

High
school graduate or GED and a minimum
of 12 months of relevant experience
