Medical Office Specialist Job Description

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The Medical Office Specialist will be responsible for The Medical Office Specialist is a key member of the Physician Practice and provides clinical/administrative expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care.   

Job Description:

The Medical Office Specialist will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • The Medical Office Specialist will work at the reception desk

  • He/She will communicate with patients and providers

  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments

  • The Medical Office Specialist will remind patients of upcoming appointments and track missed appointments

  • He/She will answer multiple telephones and accurately document messages

  • The Medical Office Specialist will forward telephone calls appropriately and follow up on return calls

  • Check-in patients and properly document registration

  • Perform insurance verification and verification of patient demographics

  • The Medical Office Specialist will file medical records

  • Retrieve medical records and deliver to appropriate providers or department

  • File patient and administrative files

  • The Medical Office Specialist will copy and fax duties

  • Collect co-pays and cash from patients, get authorization on credit cards

  • The Medical Office Specialist will enter charges, payments, and balance the day in the computer.           

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Medical Office Specialist Job

  • The Medical Office Specialist should possess knowledge of basic office equipment including copier, fax machine, and computer
  • Skill in dealing with interpersonal issues and customer relations
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at once with minimal supervision
  • The Medical Office Specialist should have ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to organize and communicate clearly
  • Possess ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information
  • The Medical Office Specialist should possess one to three years of experience.      

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Medical Office Specialist Job

  • High school diploma or GED.
