Job Summary:
The
Emergency Medical Technician, EMT,
will be
responsible for operating all aspects of
the ambulance driving systems including
lights and siren operation, cellular
telephone and radio communications.
Operating the ambulance will be done
safely and be in accordance with the
Sate Department of Transportation's laws
and guidelines for operating emergency
vehicles.
In addition, the
Emergency
Medical Technician will assist the
medical crew as needed on inter-facility
transfers and / or on intercepts in
accordance with the EMT-B scope of
practice as defined by the State. Job

The
Emergency Medical Technician will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:

The
Emergency Medical Technician will
perform driving
-
Safely
operate either intercept vehicles or
ambulances in varying weather conditions
-
The
Emergency Medical Technician will
accurately read road maps and operate
the GPS
-
Keep the
supervisor updated on operations that
are out of the norm
-
He/She
will perform maintenance
-
The
Emergency Medical Technician will
perform daily vehicle checks
-
Maintain
vehicle maintenance log and facilitate
any maintenance needs
-
Clean the
vehicle
-
The
Emergency Medical Technician will
perform Patient Care
-
Assist
with patient loading or unloading
including carrying patient care
equipment and supplies
-
The
Emergency Medical Technician will assist
the medical crew as directed but within
the scope of an EMT-B
-
Assist on
hospital units per base needs as
outlined by the base manager
-
The
Emergency Medical Technician will
operate and maintain communication with
home base or destination sites via radio
or cellular telephone as directed by the
medical staff
-
He/She
will refuel ambulance as needed.
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge /
Skill For Emergency Medical Technician Job
The
Emergency Medical Technician should have
minimum of three years driving
experience holding a regular driver's
license
He/She
should have at least one year of
experience driving emergency vehicles
The
Emergency Medical Technician should have
a minimum of 1 year experience as an EMT-B
He/She must maintain a minimum of
current EMT-B licensure and must meet
initial guidelines set forth by the
National Registry of EMTs.

High
school diploma or equivalent
-
Current
State EMT-B licensure
-
Hold a
valid regular State driver's license for
at least 3 years and be free of any
moving traffic violations for at least
one year and be free of major violations
(i.e., hit and run, driving while
intoxicated) for at least three years
-
Certified
Emergency Vehicle Operation (CEVO) or
Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
is preferred at the point of hire, but
is required within six months of hire
-
Current
CPR / BLS certifications.
