Director Program & Vendor Management Job Description

 

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The Director Program & Vendor Management is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Company Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO) and Vendor Management Office (VMO). He/She will provide guidance and best practice knowledge to build project and vendor management discipline and consistency across the enterprise.

The Director Program & Vendor Management will provide program and vendor management leadership to cross functional teams and contribute to building the infrastructure of a growing discipline in accordance with the vision set forth by Vice President and other Senior Executives.

Job Description:

The Director Program & Vendor Management will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • In support of the VP, Strategic Development, understand major corporate initiatives and direct the program management and vendor management needed to support those initiatives

  • Build strong working relationships with various cross functional groups throughout the company and work closely with the VP of Strategic Development to implement programs and planning

  • Support executive management, including the corporate initiative planning and monitoring process. Provide development, support and coordination for materials and presentations

  • Manage a team of senior level individuals including Program Managers and Project Consultants. These individuals provide program management and consulting expertise to key strategic initiatives impacting the enterprise with multi-year timelines

  • Assist with resource allocation and resolution of resource conflicts

  • Champion the EPMO and VMO and create best practices that can be modeled by other departments across the enterprise. Work closely with the EPMO and develop a consistent project management methodology to be used across the enterprise

  • Lead development and adoption of corporate project management standards. Provide program and project management support to other functional areas, including project management training as needed

  • Maintain existing project execution methods and tools. Collaborate cross-organizationally with the department owners for each component of the project execution methodology or tools to maintain integration with the overall methodology

  • Foster ongoing improvement of project execution methods and tools; understand internal and external factors that are including use of the methods and tools; proactively identify opportunities to improve methods and tools

  • Understand the overall business and strategic initiative goals as well as the timelines of those goals. Develop efficient and reliable metrics for measuring program and project progress towards those goals

  • Direct and consult with corporate-wide leaders in identifying their business/vendor needs. Lead development and adoption of corporate vendor management standards. Provide support to other functional areas in vendor management and vendor management training as needed

  • Build and maintain external vendor relationships

  • Mentor, counsel and direct vendors and senior leaders with their proposals, fee arrangements and project management. Manage the vendor portfolio from a strategic vendor relationship management prospective

  • Recruit, retain and develop talented team members in order to accomplish business objectives. 

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Director Program & Vendor Management Job

  • Ten years of program management and/or management level experience with responsibility for development and implementation of strategies and plans in support of an organization

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a broad and integrated perspective when planning, problem-solving, and assessing impact across functional areas; including the identification of the critical steps, activities, upstream/downstream processes, etc. included in program management

  • Extensive experience with large-scale enterprise wide project and program management; including skills and in depth understanding of project management methodology, project management planning, issue tracking and reporting, etc.

  • Demonstrated successful experience leading complex, cross functional project teams

  • Process Management Experience

  • Proven ability to develop effective relationships and to work at all levels of the company including senior and executive management. Experience working effectively across divisional lines in a complex, multi-site organization

  • Extensive internal financial, vendor management and consulting experience

  • Experience negotiating large external vendor contracts

  • Excellent leadership, communication (written and oral), presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Results oriented and possess excellent analytical, facilitation and strategic planning skills

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Healthcare and insurance industry experience preferred

  • Professional, dedicated and detail oriented.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Director Program & Vendor Management Job

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent work experience
  • MBA preferred
  • Certification with the Project Management Institute (PMI) or other recognized project management body
  • Professional services consulting experience.
