Example 1: Civil Engineer Job Description

Job Summary:

The Civil Engineer will be responsible for providing civil engineering technical support for plant operation and maintenance, including: (1) definition of civil/structural project scope of work (2) input to civil engineering related estimates, designs, specifications and standards, (3) execution of projects, and (4) other needed civil design services.

The Civil Engineer will maintain expertise in assigned functional areas, for example, steel and concrete structures, anchor bolt design, monorail design, buildings, roofing, pavement, roads, railroads, pipelines, underground utilities, site work, environmental related projects, etc.

Job Description:

The Civil Engineer will perform all or some of the following job description:

  • He/She will provide civil engineering technical support

  • Identify opportunities for improved civil engineering design and services (e.g., quality, cost, reliability)

  • Maintain technical expertise in assigned functional areas, such as concrete and steel structures, landfills, underground pipelines, etc.

  • The Civil Engineer will provide forecast cost and schedule estimates for capital and maintenance projects

  • He/She will determine scope of work for civil engineering portion of projects

  • Provide civil engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for projects

  • Interpret codes and standards related to functional areas of expertise

  • The Chemical Engineer will participate and lead improvement projects related to the civil engineering discipline and other engineering services

  • Perform above duties with attention to safety in both work practices and design

  • He/She will perform above duties with a focus on teamwork and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Civil Engineer Job

  • The Civil Engineer must possess knowledge and skill in Reinforced Concrete Structures, Steel Structures, Buildings and Roofing

  • He/She should possess basic Geotechnical Knowledge, Geometric and Pavement Design, Railroads, and Erosion Control knowledge

  • Knowledge of Hydrology/Watershed Modeling, Storm Drainage Design
    Landfills, Monorails/Cranes/Hoists, Easement and Right-of-Way, and Dedication/Acquisition

  • The Civil Engineer must have strong understanding and knowledge of Underground Utility Systems, Site Planning, Facility Layout, and Underground Utility Repairs

  • He/She must possess previous chemical plant or refinery experience

  • He/She should have previous capital project construction experience.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Civil Engineer Job

  • Bachelor (BS) or Master's (MS) degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.

Example 2: Civil Engineer - Oil & Gas Job Description

Job Summary:

The Civil Engineer - Oil & Gas will be responsible for providing civil engineering expertise in the planning, design, and construction oversight of onshore gas well pads, access roads, and fresh water impoundments.

He/She should demonstrate sound engineering judgment in planning, site layout, hydrology, hydraulics, access roads, freshwater impoundment, and earthwork projects, as related to well-pad design and construction.

Job Description:

The Civil Engineer will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Prepare and/or oversee the development of construction plans which include drainage plans, grading plans, site plans, and erosion and sediment control plans at proposed well-pad sites

  • He/She will ensure projects are complete and constructed in accordance with requirements

  • Verify that all recommendations, drawings and specifications comply with engineering, environmental and economic requirements.

  • The Civil Engineer will work independently and as part of an integrated team which includes land surveyors and environmental/ecological professionals

  • He/She will ensure relevant company policies and practices and applicable codes, recommended practices, & regulations are properly implemented

  • Ensure compliance with the agreed HSEC procedures and practices of all activities in areas of discipline responsibility.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Civil Engineer - Oil & Gas Job

  • He/She should possess knowledge of HSE Policies and local, State, & Federal Regulations

  • Possess good interpersonal skills, written and oral communications and team skills

  • The Civil Engineer should have experience in design, preparation, estimates, and inspection in the construction of well site pads

  • Experience in managing earthwork projects and implementing grading, drainage, and erosion control plans

  • He/She should possess competence in MS office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project

  • The Civil Engineer should be familiar with the onshore oil & natural gas industry

  • He/She should demonstrate human relations and communication skills (written and verbal) and management of multi-discipline projects

  • He/She should have minimum 5 years industry related experience.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Civil Engineer - Oil & Gas Job

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline

  • Registered Engineer in the State of employment. Registrations in Pennsylvania & West Virginia are considered a plus.
