Job Summary:

The Chemical Engineer will provide Chemical support in a manufacturing plant. He/She will use chemical engineering skill sets as an enabling technology to innovate and develop new technologies/systems/processes in various applications.

Job Description:

The Chemical Engineer will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • He/She will contribute to the plants Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and Cost Out efforts; solve complex, multi-disciplinary technical challenges, committed to project execution

  • He/She will generate new ideas according to market needs and initiate new research projects; embrace EHS & play an active role in nurturing a culture of safety

  • The Chemical Engineer will design, develop and implement productivity and Total Cost Out (TCO) projects. He/She will provide work direction to shop and maintenance personnel across shifts

  • He/She will provide technical support to OME team; evaluate operational concerns and propose corrective actions; recommends/review new installations or modifications to improve existing facilities

  • The Chemical Engineer will develop younger process engineers; study new ideas and innovative technologies to enhance plant operation, reliability, profitability, or performance; develop/review design packages and modification procedures

  • He/She will develop/review chemical cleaning, major equipment performance, and piping modification procedures; develop simulation models; participate in and/or provide support during construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and testing activities of new projects and facilities

  • The Chemical Engineer will participate and/or lead investigations and general study efforts and develop necessary documentation; assist other engineers in solving problems beyond their specialty or field of expertise; attend to daily, routine and unplanned unit activities; enhance standard work processes and business flow

  • He/She will resolve environmental matters and attend to related findings and observations; participate in departmental major periodic and unplanned events such as MIS, EMSR, QSI, etc.; evaluate economic and technical feasibility of projects, modification, or other proposals and suggestions

  • The Chemical Engineer will participate in corporate studies, committees, initiatives, or programs.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Chemical Engineer Job

  • The Chemical Engineer should possess experience defining & documenting chemical formulas and process parameters

  • Experience designing and completing process optimization experiments

  • He/She should possess project management experience

  • Experience with defining equipment performance specifications and tolerances

  • The Chemical Engineer should possess strong written and verbal communication skills (English)

  • He/She should possess experience negotiating with equipment suppliers (price, delivery & on-going service)

  • Experience working in a multi-cultural team.

Example 2: Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development Job Description

Job Summary:

The Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development will join the Company's Chemical Development team and will be responsible for defining, developing, and demonstrating commercially viable, multi-step, organic syntheses for the manufacture of small-molecule advanced intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Job Description:

The Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • He/She will support drug substance process development via laboratory development, pilot plant scale-up, drug supply preparation, and technology transfer to third party manufacturing facilities

  • Lead the identification, development, and deployment of new instrumentation and automation technologies to support drug substance process development. Areas of focus may be in the areas of reaction engineering/catalysis, separations, crystallization, physical property measurement, engineering unit operations, and chemical analysis

  • The Chemical Engineer will work closely with synthetic organic chemists and chemical engineers in the Chemical Development department to investigate potential hazards associated with synthetic transformations, unit operations, and process equipment

  • He/She will deliver robust and safe chemical processes for in-house execution, scale-up, and tech transfer to external vendors

  • Manage the transfer of bench-scale chemical processes to third party manufacturing facilities and have demonstrated experience in managing external scientific activities and relationships with CRO’s and CMO’s.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development Job

  • He/She should possess a sound understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering fundamentals

  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience in API process development, process scale-up, troubleshooting, and optimization

  • The Chemical Engineer should possess knowledge of applied kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport fundamentals

  • He/She must be familiar with modern laboratory instrumentation (HPLC, GC, FTIR, Raman, FBRM, DSC, TGA, XRPD, etc), automation tools, and laboratory/plant implementation of PAT (FTIR, n-IR, on-line laser diffraction, etc.)

  • The Chemical Engineer should have a proven track record in laboratory and pilot-scale development in the areas of reaction engineering, catalysis, crystallization, separation technologies, drying, and micronization

  • He/She should demonstrate experience with modeling complex, physicochemical systems; data analysis; statistical design of experiments; QbD concepts, and fluency with common physical property and process modeling tools (Aspen, Dynochem, Matlab, etc.)

  • The Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to interact, lead, and collaborate within an interdisciplinary team environment comprised of organic, physical, and analytical chemists; project team members; and manufacturing personnel

  • He/She must be a highly productive, results-oriented individual able to generate and implement original ideas and solutions that contribute materially to the success and development of drug substance candidates

  • The Chemical Engineer should possess strong organization, and planning skills and a high level of technical aptitude and creativity.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Chemical Engineer - Chemical Development Job

  • Ph.D. or BS/MS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and 5-10 years of relevant work experience in API or fine chemical process development.
