The
Senior Computer Specialist
is responsible for providing networked
server support and solutions in support
of the Organization’s institutional
advancement programs and activities;
assisting in the development of
information vehicles and providing
client advocacy and consultation with
Advancement staff in the use of
departmental technical resources;
providing domain based technical support
and troubleshooting for Organization
Advancement and responding to
hardware/software problems with
corrective procedures.

The
Senior Computer Specialist will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:
Under general supervision, coordinate
the operations of local area networks
including backups and disaster recovery
Analyze technology systems
infrastructure and methods; Serve as the
vendor relations manager for managed
server support (vendor to be determined)
and managed desktop support services,
Nebula
Play an active role in migrating
the Advancement intra- and extranet site
to a new web content management system
to be determined
Install and configure
PC's, LAN workstations and servers and
various software packages
Manage user
accounts, security and workstation
configurations, and write user/technical
documentation
Install, maintain and monitor network
servers, including programming
Resolve
performance and security issues as
necessary; install upgrades and patches
to network operating software as
required; install and maintain a
reliable backup solution for
departmental files and servers; maintain
working disaster recovery plans and
procedures; periodically test
reliability of procedures; monitor virus
scanning on network servers;
troubleshoot script problems on Web
server and monitor indexing of various
web sites
Use diagnostic tools and
troubleshooting processes to determine
if problems are due to equipment,
network or application errors, resolve
connectivity; install and configure PC's
and various software packages, create
network accounts and groups,
troubleshoot logon problems, perform
regular audits of network accounts
Track software license compliance along
with technology documents/certificates
such as product registrations, SSL
certificates, maintenance agreements,
service contracts; recommend
departmental hardware and software
standards
Advise leadership of
discovery and mitigation of IT security
risks
Utilize databases for management and
maintain records on hardware and
software configurations, network
performance and configurations; maintain
inventory tracking records from
procurement to disposal and monitor
parts and equipment stocking levels
Write, maintain and update user manuals,
system support manuals and other types
of documentation; perform research and
provide information to management
regarding new technology and equipment
Act as lead vendor relations and
tracking staff for outsourced services
and purchasing relationships including
Nebula; serve as second and third tier
support for complex desktop, printing or
server technical issues, leading front
line support staff in delivering
solutions
Serve as technical lead for intranet
site maintenance and site migration to
new platform
Two years related field
work which includes Windows
2000/2003/2008 Server, Windows Virtual
Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Windows
XP, Vista and Windows 7, LAN and
workstation support, as well as MS
Access development experience
Experience in troubleshooting hardware
and software problems at the component
level
Experience with web publishing and web
site design, SQL, MS Access, and Visual
Basic
Strong interpersonal skills and

correspondence, and in-person
Ability
