Job Summary:
The
Information Services - Computer Operator
will perform duties necessary to monitor
and ensure correct operation of Company
computing system. He/She will assist the
Corporate IS Customer Support Center to
provide 24 X 7 X 365 support to the
various business and applications hosted
within the Corporate Data Center.
Job
Description:
The
Information Services - Computer Operator will perform
all or some of the following Job
description:
Monitor the operation of various
servers, hosts systems and network
components to ensure proper function
and availability to end-users
Utilize various monitoring tools as
provided such as directly reviewing
system console messages, event logs,
emails alerts, audible alarms from
data center environmental/mechanical
device monitors, or automated
monitoring tools
Provide first-level support
following established procedures, to
end-users having issues such as
connectivity to various servers or
systems, analysis and correction of
automated interfaces or printing
issues, analysis and correction of
user logon issues
Perform backups/restores using BRMS
per established schedules and
procedures, or as requested
Mount
and unload backup media as needed to
complete backup/restore operations
Assist in the management of tapes
and other data backup media
including completion of logs,
off-site storage manifests, or to
insert, remove or move media from
carriers, storage containers and
racks
Perform regularly scheduled uploads
or downloads of data from and to
various trading partner or Company
servers, websites or hosts
Serve
in the role of Customer Support
Coordinator during non-business
hours
Open
appropriate help/work tickets and
escalates issues to on-call
personnel as needed
Respond to error conditions on
monitored systems and servers by
entering message responses or
operating system commands from the
keyboard or performing other actions
as appropriate, such as mounting
storage media, per established
procedures
Maintain various Operational logs as
required by supervisor or manager
Contact vendors and assist service
personnel to affect repair on
damaged or malfunctioning computing
or network equipment, or data center
environmental/mechanical systems
Perform other duties as
assigned/required.
Minimum Requirements / Knowledge /
Skill For Information Services -
Computer Operator Job
Basic
working knowledge of wide area and
local area networking sufficient to
recognize and respond to network
related trouble
Familiar with Microsoft Word and
Excel sufficient to create or edit
basic documents or open and navigate
through existing documents for
reference to instructions
Good
verbal and written communications
skills to speak and correspond with
customers and colleagues
Good
customer service skills with ability
to remain professional and courteous
in stressful situations
Ability to understand and perform
all other duties according to
Company Service Excellence
Principles, policies, procedures,
and ethical behavior guidelines
Basic
working knowledge of the operation
of multiple computing systems such
as AS/400 (iSeries) with HMC, Client
Access, RDARS and BRMS. Microsoft
Windows-based PCs and servers.
Minimum Education Requirements /
Certification / Licensure For
Information Services - Computer Operator
Job
High
School Diploma or equivalent;
Technical School preferred.
