Director Of Computer Systems And Services Job Description

 

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The Director Of Computer Systems And Services is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the Computer Systems and Services (CSS) staff and activities of the College; providing support and consultation to academic computing users as needed.

Job Description:

The Director Of Computer Systems And Services will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term data communication and computing plans for the College

  • Develop the technical aspects of an integrated plan for computer hardware and software functions of the College

  • Evaluate, procure and install vendor-supplied software, hardware, data communications and services to maintain an administrative computing environment for the College

  • Develop, implement and maintain CSS policies and procedures for departmental and College-wide administrative computing activities

  • Establish and administrative computing governance structure for prioritization of projects

  • Establish project management policies and operational guidelines

  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of CSS staff; select staff and provide training as required

  • Manage and coordinate schedules for required local, State and federal computer-based reporting

  • Maintain relationships with computer hardware, software, and services vendors for the acquisition of new equipment and the maintenance of existing equipment

  • Meet with staff responsible for campus functions to plan, design, and enhance computer systems as required

  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with academic and administrative departments and divisions

  • Serve on the College's executive management teams and other committees as required

  • Participate in local, State and National organizations

  • Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in computer systems

  • Perform feasibility studies, estimate required resources, and monitor and report to Computer Services Committee progress in prioritized projects

  • Represent the District on computer-related technical associations

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Director Of Computer Systems And Services Job

  • Knowledge of computer systems hardware and software

  • Knowledge of administrative functions requiring computer support and services

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, administration and training

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal communication skills

  • Current knowledge of data communications technology, capabilities and trends

  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control

  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the CSS staff and activities of the College

  • Ability to provide support and consultation to academic computing users as needed

  • Ability to perform short- and long-term planning

  • Ability to develop and maintain budgets; select, supervise and evaluate assigned personnel

  • Ability to supervise the maintenance of appropriate records

  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship between Computer Services and various user groups

  • Ability to represent the CSS department for the College and the community.

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Director Of Computer Systems And Services Job

  • Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor*s degree in management, information systems, computer science, or related field and four years increasingly responsible supervisory experience in a data processing or computing environment.
