Network Administrator Information Technology Job Description

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The Network Administrator Information Technology will execute the maintenance, administration and enhancement of the organizations’ network technologies. He/She will report to the Director of IT Operations.

Job Description:

The Network Administrator Information Technology will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Maintain and support Microsoft Windows Servers 2003 and 2008

  • Support, improve and maintain Active Directory

  • Proactively monitor event logs and troubleshoot to conclusion

  • Maintain and improve all Cisco, Dell and 3COM network hardware and their configurations (e.g. routers, firewalls, switches, VPN)

  • Liaise with circuit vendors and come up with strategies to improve network system up time

  • Monitor and maintain the office’s wireless network hardware and configuration

  • Liaise with hosting vendors to execute maintenance and enhancement tasks

  • Ensure the integrity and timeliness of system backups

  • Assist with the development and testing of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity procedures

  • Provide expertise in best practices pertaining to network hardware and systems

  • Assist in the development of security solutions as they pertain to network systems

  • Liaise with hosted VoIP vendor and take ownership of the system and suggest changes as needed

  • Assist with account administration on both internal and hosted systems as needed

  • Assist with providing IT user support in the office on an as needed basis.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For Network Administrator Information Technology Job

  • 4+ years experience providing outstanding customer service via phone, email and in person in a technical support role
  • 3+ years practical experience designing, configuring and installing network hardware and their associated integrated operating systems (prefer Cisco)
  • 3+ years experience with TCP/IP as well as subnetting, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, QoS, VPN, VoIP
  • 2+ years practical experience with Windows Server 2003 or higher and Active Directory
  • Practical experience working with workstations, Windows XP & higher, Microsoft Office and other common software
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting all the above
  • Experience with hard disk encryption and NAC policies and procedures strongly preferred
  • Well-organized self-starter with ability to assign and prioritize work with minimal supervision
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate discussions, resolve problems, explain ideas clearly and develop an understanding of the needs of the organization
  • Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours
  • CCNA or higher preferred (equivalent experience acceptable)
  • MCP/MCTS or higher preferred (equivalent experience acceptable)
  • Professional experience with Linux servers, intrusion detection, antivirus solutions and project management a plus. 

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For Network Administrator Information Technology Job

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Security certifications a plus.
