IT Support - Server Specialist Job Description

 

 

 

Job Summary:

The IT Support - Server Specialist will be responsible for supporting the infrastructure and people working on world class games. Their IT shop is a small crew and day to day duties and challenges are varied, from supporting creative staff with high end applications to maintaining the server and technical infrastructure.  

Job Description:

The IT Support - Server Specialist will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • Install server and Workstation Operating Systems according to documented procedures and/or customer specific needs

  • Perform hardware and software related changes as required by the creative staff

  • Rack and install server and network hardware

  • Understand the infrastructure cabling topology of the server labs, run/punch down network cabling from switches or patch panels to desks, servers, etc.

  • Receive and ship inventory on an as needed basis

  • Work with our server monitoring toolset to monitor for new tasks or problems

  • Provide technical support to peers during problem determination and resolution

  • Assist with equipment installation/relocation during team reorganizations and expansions

  • Work with peers to improve the infrastructure for patch management, OS and software deployment

  • Troubleshooting Xbox development hardware and support equipment.

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skill For IT Support - Server Specialist Job

  • Ability to work in a multiplatform environment (Mac's and PC's, very little Linux.)
  • 3 years operational experience in a production computing environment using Microsoft operating systems, Intel based servers, PC LAN technologies
  • Strong server HW troubleshooting, and experience in a high availability datacenter style environment
  • Experience in server disk array management and troubleshooting
  • Experience with batch scripting for enterprise management
  • Self-motivated, team player, and ability to immediately contribute to a fast paced, deadline intensive environment
  • Experience in a role involving direct customer contact (internal and external customers)
  • Proficiency in Windows based applications, WORD, EXCEL, VISIO
  • Ability to work shift weekend and/or rotational work occasionally as needed
  • Enthusiasm to learn new technologies and experience testing and rolling out new hardware and tools in a production environment
  • Ability to administer and troubleshoot: DHCP/DNS/WINS, Local User account management, Port management using Cisco CLI, Basic routing protocols (RIP, OSPF), AD Accounts, File server management (Defrag, robocopy, DFS, ACL's, compression)
  • Powershell experience
  • Experience installing and configuring Active Directory
  • Experience with user and server management in Exchange 2007
  • Experience installing and configuring VMware and MS virtual server
  • Macintosh (and Mac user) support skills
  • Proficiency in Backup Exec, and Retrospect
  • Experience scripting using WSH, VBScript, Perl
  • Understanding of network ACL's
  • Experience with Juniper Netscreen, Cisco IOS and CatOS, Aruba Wireless
  • Experience with cardkey based security system administration
  • Experience with sever HVAC systems
  • Experience with troubleshooting all kinds of Protools, Avid and other pro video and audio production gear is a PLUS. 

Minimum Education Requirements / Certification / Licensure For IT Support - Server Specialist Job

  • College Degree preferred but will consider applicants with equivalent work-related experience with a minimum educational requirement of a H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)
  • MCSE or Cisco certification.
